My Dad’s Obsessed With Elephants

My dad’s obsessed with elephants,
he wished it was his pet.
And when his birthday came, I knew
exactly what to get.

I went off to the forest, and
exploring it was fun.
I must bring home an elephant
although it weighs a ton.

I found an elephant which was
as obese as a hog.
I tied a rope around its neck
and walked it, like my dog.

At first, it wouldn’t follow me
and just would not obey.
I lured it with bananas which
then made it go my way.

At last, it was next to my house
(it almost took a day).
I fed it with a lot of fruits
and begged for it to stay.

When my dad saw the elephant,
he quickly got acquainted.
He then jumped up and down for joy;
my mother nearly fainted.

That’s one of the funny poems that are to be published in my poetry book. In fact, it was the first poem I’ve ever written in 2009!

Hi Gloson, I found out about your blog when it was featured in The Star. This really is a good poem — the way you structured it, there is a punchline in every stanza! Such talent in someone so young. There is hope for Malaysia after all! Well done, young man!
